Choosing Magic

December 17, 2019

I woke up early to savor the quiet of the morning.

I sat by the light of the Christmas tree with a warm drink, a pencil, and some paper, but before I could even write one thing down, I heard footsteps on the stairs.

There were so many things I wanted to get on paper - I had gotten up early to have this time to myself. I'd be lying if I wasn't battling some disappointment that my quiet time vanished before it truly began.

But her face. Her sweet, sleepy smile woke me from that thought in a hurry. I may not have gotten that time to myself, but I got that time just she and I. It's not lost on me how precious that time is.

The fog outside was thick, and we don't get that often here. She was soooo enamored with it. She couldn't take her eyes off the window. So, I made a choice. We went all in. We gave ourselves 2 minutes to throw on some clothes and we ran outside to play, just she and I.

We ran around, we danced, we found beautiful frost-covered leaves, and wish flowers frozen stiff.

We made memories.

As moms, we're all guilty of putting off our kids. "Later," or "just a minute" or "tomorrow." How many times have we all said those things to our kids?

Memories don't often just happen to us, we have to choose them. Sometimes, even when we just wanted a moment to ourselves.

We have to see a moment for all it's potential and choose to embrace life in the *now.*

It's when we choose that all the magic happens.
